Sevenoaks U16 TAN go top with one game remaining.
What an absolutely outstanding performance, collectively and individually on the 3G on Sunday as Oaks ran out 5-1 winners to title challengers Seymour Villa, ending any hope they had of winning the league. The boys work rate and team ethic was of the highest quality and the result secures second at worst.
That said the value of our 3G cannot be underestimated. We all play on some very questionable pitches at times but the standard of football on this surface goes up several notches and gives all our boys the opportunity to really flourish. And so it was yesterday with a scintillating performance against a strong side. After the initial shock of falling behind in the first minute (route one, wind assisted ! ) the boys regrouped to lead 2-1 at HT.
Seymour were still on for the double before k/o with games in hand in the league and having got to the cup final (knocking us out 2-1 in the second round) so we knew we had to really dig deep in the second half to get the win we needed to stay on track in the league and thwart Seymour’s own ambitions.
The first 15 mins of the second half were attritional as both sides fought valiantly to control the middle but with Oaks always the more threatening of the two sides with great interplay and energy shown from our midfield. The defence was strong, solid and quick to snuff out any danger, restricting our Keeper to tidying up the loose ball (a far cry from 3 weeks ago when we lost the away fixture 3-1 and our GK was MOM!) so the win on Sunday more than made up for these two earlier defeats.
We closed out the last 25 minutes with some sublime football throughout the team, carving out three more outstanding goals as the boys at the front caused the opposition no end of problems with their craft and guile. Really well done to everyone involved.
One game to play, one win required.
Peckham await at the Menace Arena this Sunday in a straight one off to decide the division winners.
