Kenny Pogue ended a near three month spell without a goal as Sevenoaks Town’s six-match unbeaten Bostik League South East right came to an end at Bourne Stadium on Saturday.
Oaks survived conceding an early penalty in a poor first half display to take the lead, only to concede twice in the last 13 minutes condemning them to a third home defeat of the season.
Pogue, last season’s top scorer, first goal since August put Oaks in front six minutes after the break.
Frankie Sawyer set-up the chance, Pogue taking one touch, before scoring with the second, and his relief finding the net again was understandable.
It triggered the hosts best spell of the game and a second goal then might have altered the eventual outcome and Oaks had their chances.
Sawyer went close twice, then Pogue and Alec Figgis headed wide.
Play switched to the other end with Ben Bridle-Card making a brave double-block, and needed treatment after colliding with striker Kweku Ansah.
William Johnson-Cole fired narrowly wide, before Phoenix pulled level with 21 minutes left, substitute Kehinde Aileru, scoring with almost his first touch, flicking home a near post corner.
Pogue was denied his second five minutes later, thumping Johnson-Cole’s cross against the crossbar, before Phoenix snatched the late winner.
Alex Teniola’s shot may have been going wide until taking a massive deflection off unlucky Jack Miles, diverting the ball into the net.
Oaks substitute Xavier Vidal then saw his free-kick pushed away by visiting free-kick Steve Phillips in stoppage-time, as Phoenix claimed the points.
The home side had an early let off when the visitors missed a penalty, Ashley Probets firing against the post after Miles had brought down Teniola only 10 minutes after the start.
The visitors dominated the rest of the half but failed to take their chances, Lewis Clark’s free near post header, the best of them, three minutes before half-time.
