Frankie Sawyer’s hat-trick helped Sevenoaks Town complete their biggest ever FA Cup win
Sawyer won the first MOM award of the season, sponsored by Sevenoaks Sports, with two-goal Kenny Pogue, and vice-captain Billy Bennett also on target.
Bennett also had a part to play in four others as Town comfortably overcame former SCEL rivals Lords in the first meeting between the two sides in the competition.
He put Town ahead, won the penalty for the second, featured in moves for the third and fourth, before setting up the sixth for Pogue.
The Medway visitors pressed early as Town’s new squad took time to settle in their first competitive match of the season.
Pogue and Sawyer combined for Bennett’s 17th minute opener, as he ran from the edge of one penalty box to the other, beating a defender, before sliding the ball home.
The lead didn’t last long, George Blake’s powerful finish put Lords level two minutes later.
Town responded well with two goals in three minutes.
Bennett started the build-up for the second after 31 minutes, linking with Sam Crabb, then swopping passes with Mikey Dalton who crossed for Pogue to head home.
Bennett and Crabb combined again for Town’s third, the latter’s deep pass picked out Pogue whose left foot shot was going in, until Sawyer nipped in to make sure.
He made it 4-1 from the spot, four minutes before half-time, Bennett winning the award after being brought down by Lords keeper Tony Coxall.
Town added their fifth only five minutes after the restart.
Jack Miles’ clearing header found Pogue who burst forward over the halfway line, before playing in Greg Benbow down the left who crossed for Sawyer to flick home to complete his treble.
Town then dominated the second half, before adding their sixth nine minutes from the end.
Bennett seized on poor defending, before his tricky run into the box, ended with him playing in Pogue, who stabbed home from close range.
He almost got his third in stoppage-time, heading against the bar.
