Frankie Sawyer’s hat-trick capped a perfect night for Sevenoaks Town in Strood on Wednesday night. Kenny Pogue added two more, making it seven in six games, with Brett Ince marking his return to the starting line-up with the other.
Playing their first game in 18 days, following three successive postponements, Town claimed their biggest away win of the season, going one better than the previous best at Bearsted last month.
Town included latest signings Osman Proni and Orlando Smith - back for a second spell with the club on the bench, along with other new boy Josh Froggatt.
Three goals in as many minutes in the final quarter of the first half did the damage against bottom team United - with two other efforts on the night ruled out for offside. Home keeper Tony Coxall, also pulled off two fine saves early in the second half to further deny Town.
Sawyer put them in front after 10 minutes, firing home after Pogue’s first effort was blocked. Pogue was the first to see a goal disallowed, before United held out as Town threatened, before Ince got the second seven minutes before half-time, blasting home from Harrison Carnegie’s run and cross.
Pogue made it 3-0 just 60 seconds later from another Carnegie assist, before Sawyer added the fourth on 41 minutes, blasting home from the edge of the area.
Proni replaced Jason Thompson just before the hour, before Billy Bennett saw his effort chalked off courtesy of an assistant’s flag. The former Erith Town midfielder was on for just four minutes, before starting the move for the fifth. He put Sawyer away down the left, who crossed for Pogue to score via the far post.
The latter was then substituted by Smith, with 16 minutes left, and also made an immediate impact, combining well with Bennett who set-up Sawyer to complete his treble, eight minutes from time, his first for the club.
