Billy Bennett's first half strike earned Sevenoaks Town victory over Crowborough at The Bourne Stadium on Monday.
Bennett made amends for an earlier penalty miss to settle the contest in the first of two meetings this week, with the FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie to come at the Gallagher Stadium, home of Maidstone United next Saturday.
Jack Miles and Chris Edwards missed the game with knocks picked up in the 3-1 win over Rusthall on Saturday. Boss Micky Collins tweaked his squad again, Steve Camacho replaced Edwards while Corey Holder returned alongside Tom Ripley. Andy Irvine and Billy Bennett started with Byron Walker and Joe Bingham dropping to the bench together with Harrison Carnegie.
Tom Phipp drilled an early shot wide for the visitors before Town were awarded a penalty five minutes later when Crows goalkeeper Dan Ellis felled Bennett in the box. Referee Matt Pollington pointed to the spot, Bennett stepped up to take it, only to see Ellis dive to his right to save - as Town's conversion count average from 12 yards dipped again.
Sam Crabb fired wide and then Jack Turner's penalty claims fell on deaf ears. Bennett's effort just after the half hour was saved, but put Town ahead seven minutes later, as he finished some good build-up play with a low finish past Ellis.
Craig Holloway kept out Ross Treleaven's free kick soon after the break, before Town went close three times to doubling their lead. Youngs raced in to the area only to see Ellis block his effort with his second winning a corner. Greg Benbow took it but Andy Irvine headed over the bar from close range.
Town kept pressing but despite all their pressure couldn't add to their lead as both sides made changes on a warm afternoon in front of 179 spectators as crowds continue to climb.
Paul Springett picked up a third yellow card in four games and was replaced by Joe Bingham. The midfielder was then booked minutes after coming on - and another challenge late on earned a second caution and an 88th minute dismissal. A one-match ban means he misses any FA Cup replay if it's required or the league game at Glebe next Tuesday.
