Southwark Allstars 2 (2) U14's Tandridge 2 (3)

Yet another away fixture which turned into a six hour round trip. The match, having been initially delayed for an hour due to an over-running match, finally kicked off at 14:00 but little did we know then that this was still only the start of a very long afternoon.

Southwark were a very strong and big outfit (why do all our teams seem smaller!) which meant this was another very physically demanding encounter which required a full complement of subs.

Having waited so long for the kick off the boys started on the front foot with more attacking intent in a changed formation and initially adapted to it well.

Unfortunately, despite creating more chances we found ourselves behind to a well taken move against the general run of play to trail at half time.

The first half was a bit attritional and not for the purist and we did start to lose our shape, but importantly Sevenoaks kept themselves in the game and were confident of getting a result.

In the second half we reverted back to our normal formation and introduced some fresh legs and within minutes Ben Clark got us off the mark with a well-taken shot from the edge of the box into the roof of the net. Game on!

The pattern of the half was much the same as the first - crunching tackles with both teams trying to establish control in the middle of the park. However, once again we were caught mid-way through from another flowing move, which was a real shame as our defence to that point had snuffed out the opposition with comparative ease. The centre back pairing of Dom Calthrop and Tancrede Ollivier deserve a special mention as they were thrown together for this game, looking for all the world as if they had played together all season, leaving our goalkeeper literally just to mop up from long range. His time was still to come...

As with all games this season and, right on cue, David La Trobe popped up again to equalise with another well-taken goal from an assist from Dillan Guelfand - filling in at right wing - and we were level once again.

On balance, we still should have got the win in normal time but it wouldn’t be a cup match without extra time - and even then we really should have knicked it but penalties it was and another drama.

Fortunately, five boys put themselves in the frame - and they deserve a mention for doing so: Ben, Dillan, Ben, Matt and David.

We got ourselves ahead 2-1 and then Kaspar Comber does what Kaspar does best and pulls off a great save and then we score to make it 3-1.

Our goalkeeper then repeats virtually the same left handed save and we just need to score to put us through. Feeling comfortable at this point...stupidly!

This is penalties and the drama continued – saved...and then they scored. Still, our fifth penalty to come. Surely now...no! Remember this is penalties and we are not Germans - blasted over the bar. Where have we seen that?!

Their fifth penalty. Score this and the drama continues. Fortunately, they are not Germans either and they blast wide. Elation! Sevenoaks win 3-2 on penalties in fading light!

Well done again boys! This was a very tough game but please can we try and win our cup games in normal time please...exciting though it is!
