Langton Green 0 U13's KYL 3

Monday, October 10, 2016

This weekend's match report for the U13's Kent Youth League team was written by their captain, Alex Pincott:

Today we played Langton Green again, after previously losing two weeks ago. We went into the game with confidence because knowing them well, we knew how we could break them down.

The first half started quite messily but we soon got into the pace of the game with Charlie, Joe and on his debut Will M continuously banging on the door and Tyrel doing tricks all over the pitch to entertain the large crowd.

Our first big chance fell to Charlie, who chased down a nice flick on by Will M only for the ball to hit the post and roll agonisingly along the line. We didn't stop there with Tyrel being played through only to be denied by a first amazing save from their goalkeeper. Just before half time two identical plays and shots by Charlie were somehow tipped onto the bar by their goalkeeper. 0-0 at half time.

We knew we couldn't start slowly in the second half as we had done in the weeks before and we were determined to keep tight at the back and get that first goal. Relentless defending from Finn, Tommy, Tristan and Harry in the first few moments tired out the Langton players. Following a sloppy Langton goal kick, Piers latched onto the ball and found Archie who on the edge of the box calmly chipped it into the top corner over the Langton goalkeeper. 1-0

We didn't stop there though really getting back into the driving seat of the match as numerous shots and great runs from Piers and Eddie were being thrown at the Langton goal. Another sloppy goal kick was picked up just inside our half and a well worked play from Tristan, Piers and Will M found its way to Alex who slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. 2-0

Langton didn't give up though and nearly got straight back into the match as we sat back in defence and tried to get a third upfront. Will M did nearly just that as he rounded the goalkeeper only for his shot to fly just over the bar, denying him a debut goal which would have been fully deserved. Eventually we got our third as a sublime shot from Reiss just inside their half flew into the top corner. 3-0

However, Langton came at us again with an extremely close free kick but a few wonderful saves from Connor kept us with our clean sheet and a perfect win.

We go again next weekend though as we play Sheffield Utd Academy to really test us.
