On Sunday we travelled to Beckenham to face Junior Elite, currently unbeaten and top of the league. On this cold and crisp Sunday morning we started the match with a very open mind.
The first half was characterised with spells of very good football. Sevenoaks looked strong and confident. The play was mainly concentrated around the half way line and our defenders were able to hold off any serious attacks from the home team. Our boys created a few half chances with one or two shots on goal. The first half ended goalless with Sevenoaks having a better ball possession overall.
However, the second half was a completely different ball game. In the fourth minute we conceded the first goal. We have experienced this so many times before; a first goal against and we start to lose our concentration. A second goal soon thereafter turned matters for the worse. Junior Elite kept the pressure on and showed Sevenoaks why they are currently top of the table.
Two more goals followed suit and a 4-0 loss was not what we had expected.
Meanwhile new signing, Tommy Higgins, made his debut - a solid performance from him but he had probably hoped for a slightly better result too.
However, all was quickly forgotten when Floris treated us to some homemade birthday cake shortly after the match.
