The Under 16's Tandridge team continued their recent good form with an impressive win against Bromley Rooks.
Sevenoaks set the tone for the game with a strong start. They were first to every ball and, when in possession, passed the ball with composure and purpose. Jamie Downs opened the scoring for Sevenoaks within the first 10 minutes and soon after Henry Phillips doubled the lead. Sevenoaks continued to press forward and more chances followed. Toby Fitzmaurice twice went close and Sevenoaks would have been three ahead had they been able to convert a penalty midway through the half. The third eventually came after another excellent ball into the penalty area again caused havoc and one of Bromley’s defenders sliced the ball into his own goal. The biggest danger for Sevenoaks was complacency and just before the break a rare lapse of concentration saw Bromley break clear to pull a goal back.
The game, however, never looked in doubt and soon after the re-start for the second half Sevenoaks restored their three goal lead with an outstanding goal, started by James Dykes in defence and finished brilliantly by Sam Sherratt. Bromley did briefly look like they might get into the game when they scored after the referee inexplicably over ruled the assistant referee to allow play to continue despite a clear off side. However, Sevenoaks were once again quick to restore their three goal advantage, this time thanks to another composed finish by Jamie Downs. As the half wore on, Sevenoaks looked like they would score every time they went forward. Toby Fitzmaurice forced Bromley’s goalkeeper to make a fine save and Jamie Downs hit the post with a superb shot before completing his hat trick and man of the match performance with another fine finish - a fitting way to round off what was Sevenoaks’ best attacking performance of the season.
