The Under 16's Tandridge team put in a solid performance to win 4-1 against Oxted and District in this Tandridge League game.
The game started slowly, with both sides squandering early possession, but it was Sevenoaks that eventually took control. Some good passing from the defence and midfield to the wings put Oxted on the back foot and a number of chances followed. Sam Sherratt and Toby Fitzmaurice looked sharp up front, and both had early chances, but it was Dan Stone who put Sevenoaks ahead after he latched on to a bouncing ball in the penalty area to fire Sevenoaks in front. Soon after, Sevenoaks were two ahead. A good cross into the penalty area from the right again caused mayhem in Oxted’s penalty area and this time Sam Sherratt was on hand, his shot deflecting into the goal off one of Oxted’s defenders. Sevenoaks might have gone in at half time three ahead, but Toby Fiztmaurice’s excellent finish form the edge of the area was ruled out for an earlier foul.
For all Sevenoaks’ dominance, Oxted had looked dangerous on the break in the first half, and within five minutes of the start of the second half they pulled a goal back after some hesitancy in Sevenoaks’ defence. This, however, proved to be a blip. Sevenoaks’ defence regained their composure and, led by a man of the match performance by Ed Clinton, ensured Oxted got no further sights of goal. Going forward, Sevenoaks passed the ball brilliantly for sustained periods, with Joseph Russell, Jamie Bingham, and Jamie Downs linking particularly well down Sevenoaks’ right. It was, however, an own goal following a mix up at the back that restored Sevenoaks’ two goal advantage.
Jamie Downs secured the points for Sevenoaks with around ten minutes left, with a brilliant finish from a tight angle following a strong and determined run.
