U12's Tandridge 4 Balham Blazers 2

Monday, October 19, 2015

After the disappointing result last weekend it was back to the drawing board. The Wednesday training session was used to let off steam and the pre-match warming up was mainly used by Sam to the get confidence levels up a few notches.

We know Balhalm Blazers well. Last season we beat them once but the home match was lost.

It was a shock to all when the Blazers already in the first minute put the ball in our net by a great powerful shot from quite a distance. 0-1

Ten minutes later it was James who spared us from further drama when he cleared the ball from the goal line. Five minutes later Archie received the ball around the half way line and slid the ball to Alex. With only the Blazer's goalie in front of him he did not make any mistake. 1-1

Only 1 minute later Floris got the ball and found Archie just a 5 meters from the box. Archie was taken down and a free kick was awarded. At this distance we really have got only one person who can take it from there. Harry's powerful shot went in the top left corner. 2-1

Both sides showed great willingness to please the crowd and a few minutes later Balham equalised with a wonderful header at the back post. 2-2

Shortly afterwards Will received the ball on the left side and managed to get a corner. Piers took the corner but the ball was not controlled by the Balham keeper. Alex stood in the right spot and slotted the ball between the posts. 3-2

The last minute of the first half our hearts almost stopped when a Balham attacker managed to get through our defence, but his shot was fantastically saved by Danny.

The half time talk was all about keeping the pressure on. 'Get that fourth goal soon and we will win the game.'

The players did exactly what Sam asked for. Riley came close to a goal immediately at the start of the second half. However his second chance came shortly thereafter. Archie was taken down and a free kick was awarded only a few meters from the box. The keeper could not control the ball and this time it was Riley who did not hesitate to punish the keeper's mistake. 2-4

From then on it was really only Sevenoaks who ruled the waves. Joe's shot from a distance went just over. Floris and Archie had some opportunities in the box but the scoreline remained unchanged.

A well deserved win that takes us back into the top three.
