The Under 16's Tandridge team continued their strong start to the season with an impressive 5-1 win against a competitive Coulsdon Tigers.
From the start, Sevenoaks looked well organised and disciplined and they were ahead within 10 minutes thanks to a calm finish from Jamie Downs following a delightful through ball from Joseph Russell. It was déjà vu minutes later, when another incisive through ball from Russell put Downs clear to score Sevenoaks’ second. Strong and tireless performances from Henry Phillips and Joseph Russell in central midfield were at the heart of what was an outstanding first half display. This was capped shortly before the break when man of the match Jamie Downs was again on hand to score and complete his hat trick after some great work from Sam Sherratt down the left. At the other end, Coulsdon rarely threatened and were restricted to long range efforts that failed to trouble Alex Thoebald in goal.
After the break, Coulsdon came out with greater intent. Buoyed by a goal from the penalty spot soon after the re-start, Coulsdon enjoyed a prolonged period of pressure. However, some outstanding and committed defending from Robert Tebbit, Tom Barnes, Ben Packer, and James Phillips - who continues to impress at centre back - ensured Coulsdon didn’t get the second that would have opened the game up. Having withstood the pressure, Sevenoaks began to re-assert their dominance and mid-way through the half Isaac von Kaufmann was on hand in the penalty area to put the game beyond doubt with a precise finish from 12 yards. Sevenoaks controlled the remainder of the game and got their fifth minutes from time after one of Coulsdon’s defenders turned the ball into his own goal following a strong run and cross from Jamie Downs.
This was a well-deserved win, built on a fine all round team performance.
