Glebe Tigers 0 U12's Tandridge 5

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

The U12's Tandridge team faced another away game this Sunday in Chislehurst. The Tandridge A division hosts two Glebe teams and this time our opponents were the Tigers. Last season we played the Lions and the Pumas and we experienced first hand that Glebe cannot be taken for granted.

Sam chose a strong starting line-up and both teams started confidently. Glebe, as well as Sevenoaks, were playing carefully and ball possession was equally split. In the sixth minute Sevenoaks broke through via Will on the left side, his pass found Piers and his shot on goal was only narrowly saved by the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper, however, couldn’t control the ball properly and it bounced of his fists, perfectly in front of Archie’s feet. He did not hesitate and with great accuracy the ball was slotted between the posts. The first goal of the season! 0-1.

Only a few minutes later Alex took the ball at the halfway line, Archie immediately reacted and received the ball from Alex. With only one touch, Piers was found and he did not miss in the resulting one-on-one situation with the Glebe goalkeeper. 0-2.

Glebe immediately reacted and started to put pressure on our defenders. Even our midfielders had to work hard in defence but Glebe could not break this wall of steel. Glebe kept on coming and their striker tried his luck with a nice shot on goal but it was fantastically cleared by James on the goal line.

The referee blowed his whistle for half time in the 35th minute.

A 0-2 lead may be comfortable but looking back to the last couple of minutes of the first half, we could not lose our concentration for one second.

Some minor changes were made during half time in the hope that these fresh legs could keep the pressure on Glebe in the second half. Obviously the Glebe boys were briefed by their coach too but it was Sevenoaks who ruled the game straight from the start of the second half.

Various challenges by our attackers were followed by shots on goal and it was only a matter of time before the ball would find its way into the net again. A corner, superbly taken by Piers, resulted in a fantastic finish by Alex who headed the ball into the far left corner of the goal. 0-3.

Our boys wanted more and the minutes that followed were characterised by great football. Sevenoaks had most of the possession and no mistakes were made. In the final minutes of the game Archie found Floris and who, despite being pushed in the process, managed to flick the ball back to Archie, who did not hesitate. 0-4. Archie’s second of the day.

It was in the 32nd minute of the second half, when even more smiles appeared on our faces. Floris was brought down and the referee awarded a free kick on the right side of the pitch well into Glebe’s half. Harry, known for his fantastic freekicks, took his place behind the ball and with surgical precision found Riley in the six yard area who nodded home to conclude the day's proceedings. 0-5.
