Bromley 0 U12's Tandridge 0

Finally the day arrived, our first league match of the season. We have worked hard over the summer and the team has been strengthened with the addition of a few new boys. Spirits were high after two promising friendly games earlier in the month. This year's A Division looks strong and our first game against Bromley FC would be a good test to get a taste of the overall quality of this league.

Danny, our goalkeeper, was absent today. Not an ideal start to say the least but Will showed at training on Wednesday that he was ready for the job.

Both sides were a little nervous and it definitely showed in the first thirty minutes. The best chances came from Sevenoaks though. Already in the third minute, Eddie, in his striker role, came in front of the keeper but his shot was high. Soon thereafter Eddie had another chance but this time his powerful shot hit the bar.

We soon created another half chance when Floris broke on the left and dribbled passed a few players but was taken down in the process. Harry took the free kick and crossed it nicely in the box. The counterattack that followed meant that our defenders could not sit on their hands either. James was challenged to the limit and Will defended his goal like a  tiger. No goals at half time.

Sam's talk at half time was critical but fair. Although playing on a 3G pitch is something we very much like, the pitch was very wide and was a little heavy and slow. The message was clear,  do not let the opponents dictate the way we play. Keep possession and do not take any unnecessary risks.

Some fresh blood came on the pitch and the start of the second half proved the boys wanted to get a positive result on the blotter.

In the tenth minute, we got another free kick just a few meters from the half line on Bromley's side. Harry struck the ball directly at goal and the Bromley goalkeeper could not control it and the ball landed between the posts. Celebrations were short lived though as the referee disallowed the goal for apparent offside but even the opposition were stunned by the decision.

The boys picked themselves up brilliantly after this setback but Bromley felt the luck was on their side and put the pressure up one level. More work for our defenders with Joe playing a major role. A few minutes later the Bromley striker broke through the defence with only Will in front of him. This hurdle was too difficult to take and once more Will showed his multitude of capabilities.

Five minutes later a Sevenoaks counterattack left their defender no choice but to take Riley down in the box. Penalty! Riley showed courage and picked up the ball and put it on the spot. The shot...against the right post.

The final result was 0-0. All in all not a bad start and it showed Sevenoaks is a team fit for playing at this level.
